Every spring sees about 1,000 pairs of running shoes racing across the Darß. The Darß-Marathon passes some of most beautiful landscapes on the peninsula and attracts athletes from all over Germany and beyond.
What began as a fun run in 2006 has since evolved into one of Germany’s most popular nature experience runs.
The passes through the primordial, romantic Darß Forest, down to the coastal lagoonst, through a picturesque artists’ colony, along the seaside cliffs, and then back to town past the quaint and colourful house doors of Prerow. If you can manage to focus more on your running than all the scenery, you might even be able to post a best time of under three hours for the 42.195 km stretch. But speed is almost secondary. The aim of the Darß-Marathon is for runners from far and wide to experience the beauty and vulnerability of these idyllic landscapes up close. The experience of the natural landscape is definitely the focus of the Darß-Marathon.
If you want to claim one of just 1,000 spots in the race, you will need to register well in advance. For the athletes of tomorrow, there are also bambini, children’s and young people’s runs. And for those who just want to come and cheer the runners along, there's a comprehensive programme of events surrounding the race.
