Whenever it’s waving over the beach, you can go swimming with a clear conscience. The Blue Flag is a Europe-wide ecological quality label designating beaches of special quality.
Prerow’s North Beach has received this designation and the Blue Flag is flown there proudly. In more than 40 countries around the globe, the Blue Flag is awarded to designate outstanding beach and water quality, environmental education and management, and safety.
Since 1987, the designation has been awarded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Umwelterziehung e.V.
In Prerow, this means that the regularly collected water samples meet high standards, the beaches are staffed with lifeguards, that there is exemplary safe access to the beach, and that environmental education and conservation measures taken are sustainable.
The Blue Flag currently flies on the North Beach at the pier and the harbour on Prerow inlet.
